A cat tree provides a great outlook for your cat to both exercise and relieve stress.  The varying heights and perches are great for climbing, stretching, and providing the means for your cat to stay active.  The rough texture of a scratching post is perfect for your cat’s scratching needs, and a much better alternative than your own furniture.  Place the post in an area that your cat already spends a lot of his time in, preferably close to his favorite sleeping or resting area, and he will feel right at home.  Don’t force the cat to use the post (putting his paws on it for example).  Give him time to check it out on his own, and within no time you’ll find that it has become his favorite place to be.  By giving your cat his own furniture, you’ll find that he will thrive in the comfort of your home, without any of the negative consequences a cat can wreak on “your” furniture!
